This article will guide you through managing and enabling custom keyword groups in StudentKeeper. With the right permissions under Safeguard section, admins can create keyword groups tailored to their school environment, triggered when students type or view specific words. You’ll learn how to add keywords, organize them into groups, and apply them to filtering policies to either block or allow certain terms. This is a powerful way to enhance your school’s digital safety and monitoring efforts.
Prerequisites:
- Access and permission for filter settings
1. Click on the Keyword Management under the Safeguard Settings.
2. Next under the Keyword Management, you have the option to add a keyword. Click the
+ Add Keyword Category button.
3. This allows you to create a customized group with specified keywords to be triggered if a student views or types a word. Admins can create keywords specific to their environment in addition to the words within the system.
Add a keyword group name then press the Save button.
To change keyword group icons, click the icon and select the appropriate image for the keyword group.
Next, add your custom keywords in the box.
Click Active or Inactive to enable or disable the keyword group.
Custom: Keywords created by user/admin and you have the ability to edit / add words to the list.
System: Keywords created by the Student Keeper system, these words can not be deleted but you can exclude them from the list.
To exclude a keyword in a system group, click exclude. In order to add that keyword back to the system keyword group, click include then save.
To delete a keyword from a custom keyword group, click remove, then save.
How to enable keywords:
1. To enable the keyword groups, click Policies, under Web Filter.
2. Click Create Policy or an existing policy, such as Default, to enable the keywords for that specific policy.
3. After you select the policy, click Keywords, the click the Add Keyword Group and select the keyword group you created or have previously created. Next, select Block or Allow for the keyword group, then press Add.
4. Click Save to add keywords to the selected policy.
