Students: Viewing a Student's Online History

StudentKeeper enables administrators to access a student’s full online history. This visibility helps the staff proactively monitor online activity, enforce policy, and promote increased student safety.

A student's online activity is accessible via the Filter Overview dashboard and the Filter Forensics dashboard within their profile. This article provides the steps for accessing the Filter Forensics dashboard and a description of each tile on the dashboard.

Session History

Filter Overview

How to Access a Student's Online History

1.  Log into StudentKeeper. 

2.  In the left menu, select Profiles > Students.

3.  You will now see a list of all students within your organization. 

4.  Click on the line for the student to open their profile page.

5. Choose Session History to view a student's 30-day history from live class sessions.

6. Users can also view a more detailed student history. Click the Filter Overview tab to view the Filter Overview dashboard.

Filter - Search Term Violations - Grouped by Keyword Pie Chart

1.  The Filter - Search Term Violations tile provides a pie (doughnut) chart. The pie represents the total number of search terms keyed in by the student that violate the school's policy. Each slice represents the number of times a specific search term was keyed in and its proportion in relation to the other search terms.

2.  Hover over a search term or a slice to view more detailed statistics. StudentKeeper will highlight the term/slice with the accompanying stats; everything else will be faded out.

Filter - Trending Search Activity

1.  The Filter - Trending Search Activity tile ranks the search terms used by the student based on its popularity with the student. 

Filter - Top Domains

1.  The Filter - Top Domains tile provides a bar graph. Each bar represents the total number of visits (or attempted visits) the student made to the specified domain.

2.  Hover over a bar to view the numerical value for the visits (or attempted visits). 

Filter - Keyword Hits Over Time (Not including Today)

1.  The Keyword Hits Over Time tile displays the sum of the keyword hits (by day) as a function of time. 

Filter - All Transactions

1.  The Filter - All Transactions tile provides a detailed log of every online action (online searches, site visits, video viewings, downloads, etc.) performed by the student.

2.  By default, the most recent transaction will be listed first, followed by the remaining transactions in descending order. To toggle the data, click on a word in the top row and a small caret will appear next to the appropriate column header. (Note: scrolling available on right side and bottom)

3.  When a pre-defined word or phrase (associated with an area of concern) is used in a transaction, that term will be highlighted. 

Filtering and Exporting a Student's Online History

1.  At the top of the student's profile page, use the Date Filter to view all data on the Filter Forensics tab within a specific date range.

2.  To export all of the data from the Filter Forensics tab, click Export tab as PDF (upper right). The export will be in a PDF format.

3.  To export the data from a specific tile, hover over the right-corner of the tile. An ellipsis (3 dots) will become visible; click on the ellipsis to download the data in this tile.
