This article has a high-level overview of StudentKeeper. Please use the table of contents to locate a section you would like to review.
Table Of Contents:
1. StudentKeeper Overview
StudentKeeper, powered by ContentKeeper, is a comprehensive platform that combines (enterprise-level) web filtering, classroom management, and student well-being tools.
StudentKeeper Demo vs. StudentKeeper Training
Demo: A comprehensive, high-level, overview of the StudentKeeper product. Each section should be demonstrated with a brief description of what the capabilities are. Areas of interest to the potential customer should be highlighted in the presentation.
VS.
Training: An in-depth walk-through of each component of StudentKeeper. Training should go into the details of each section to ensure the customer has complete understanding of how to use the product. Most training courses are broken up into skill level sessions, Administrative and Standard User.
2. Classroom Management
StudentKeeper combines real-time monitoring with intuitive management tools. This helps teachers overcome distractions and creates an environment where learning can thrive, even in a world full of notifications, games, and endless online rabbit holes.
Integrations
StudentKeeper supports many Student Information Systems/ Management Information Systems (SIS/MIS) through the use of EdLink (US Customers) and Wande (UK Customers). Our system is OneRoster compliant, allowing automated imports of the specific data you want while leaving non-essential information behind.
In-system controls allow Ativion support the ability to see and fix errors on the fly. Jumpstarting syncs when updates are needed.
User/Role Management
StudentKeeper has several built-in pre-defined user roles. Customers can now auto map their users to the correct role during a sync, eliminating the need to do it manually.
Users can create new user accounts and assign various roles that have specified permissions to access certain menus and features.
Administrators also have the ability to impersonate to confirm what that user can see.
Classes
The Classes section contains a list view of all the imported (SIS/MIS) classes and custom classes for the organization. This is the area where a staff member will go to start a live class session.
Synced Groups
Groups can be imported from your SIS/MIS to populate this area. These classes will have all staff and students associated with the class. These groups can be edited from the program to make temporary changes to the class roster.
Custom Groups
Users have the ability to create custom groups. These are groups that are normally not in the data sync source. Examples include clubs or combined special instruction courses where students are gathered outside of the typical classroom setting.
Class Monitoring Tools (Live)
During a live class, teachers have the ability to enable the following controls on their student devices:
- Disable the Internet: This removes the students’ ability to use a browser to access the internet.
- Lock Device: This places the student device in lock mode rendering it inoperable for use until permission is reinstated.
- Logout: If a teacher needs to remove a student device from being controlled/monitored during their live session, they can logout the selected device(s).
- Send Message: Teachers have the ability to send one-directional messages to students. Students do not have the ability to respond to the message through the program.
- Launch Website: Teachers can direct students to websites without spelling confusion or students not hearing the site. This feature launches a website on the student device.
- Block List: Teachers can block specific websites they do not want their students to browse during class.
- Allow List: Teachers can allow very specific websites while blocking everything else. An example would be allowing a testing site during state testing. Students will only be able to go to that site while being blocked from all other sites.
Student Profiles
Student profiles contain the following information:
- Profile: This tab contains the students’ general information as well as a filter overview of their classes, web browsing habits, and Aria AI usage (Filter Subscription Dependent).
- Notes: This tab contains a list of all the Notes raised for this student giving staff a comprehensive was to collaborate with each other to help the student. For more information see the Notes section.
- Captures: This tab contains any capture associated with the student. For more information see the Captures section.
- Login Details: This tab lists the student device login details. This is where you can confirm a student’s credentials match what is being used to login to a device.
- Classes: This tab contains all the classes and groups this student is in. Administrators can use this view to monitor specific students without the need to use an alternate source to find the class.
- Session History: This tab contains a student’s web activity during live class sessions. Having the ability to view this information after a class, allowing teachers the opportunity to focus on instruction during active student time.
Staff Profiles
Teachers and Staff profiles contain the following information:
- Profile: This tab contains a general overview of the staff member’s user information, the number of classes, number of students and notes generated.
- Classes: This tab has a list of all the classes and groups associated with this teacher allowing for quick access to any class.
- My Notes: This tab has a list view of all the notes created by the teacher or staff member.
- Captures: This tab has a view of all captures associated with students from this teacher.
Session Controls
Teachers can easily manage session settings by creating session controls to apply when they start a class session. This feature allows teachers to manage students proactively versus reactively.
In addition to pre-setting Class Monitoring Tools, Session Controls can also be used to create Capture Triggers. Capture triggers are words or phrases that a teacher wants to monitor during a class session. When a trigger is made, a teacher can receive an alert, and a note can be automatically generated (if desired) along with the capture of the student’s screen when the trigger was made.
3. Safeguarding
StudentKeeper empowers teachers to track concerns, monitor academic performance, and highlight positive behaviors (PBIs). By having a full picture of a student’s progress, teachers and staff can provide the support and protection students deserve.
Captures
Administrators and teachers can set trigger words for students that will generate a screenshot of the student’s device screen when the word or phrase is written or embedded in information on the page.
Those captures are housed in the Captures section of StudentKeeper. Users, who have access, can review these captures and generate notes, assign to another staff member for review, discard, and send (via email or CPOMS).
Having these records with a visual reference provides the evidence needed to address any concerns with that student.
Notes
The Notes section is an easy-to-use tool designed to help educators efficiently create, track, and manage both concerns and positive feedback for students.
Users can create notes with customizable forms tailored to the needs of the organization.
Each note has a version log for easy tracking of any changes made along with who made the change.
Notes can be viewed, edited, and commented on by staff with access.
Additionally, notes can be sent via email for review outside of StudentKeeper.
4. Content Filtering
StudentKeeper is built on the power of ContentKeeper, the industry’s most secure and adaptable web filter, uniquely designed to protect students and enhance their use of diverse technologies in the classroom, supporting a seamless learning experience. Key features of the filter include:
- Intelligent Web Filtering: Avoid over-blocking and ensure safe student access to valuable online learning resources.
- Cross-Platform Control: Manage filtering and reporting across all devices (Managed or BYOD) with centralized, real-time control.
- App Defender: Keep your network safe by blocking unauthorized applications and stopping web filter workarounds.
Policy Management
Policy Management filtering streamlines communication between the core platform and on-premises or cloud-hosted network filter appliances. This ensures seamless integration and centralized policy management. With built-in proxy functionality, flexible policy controls, and an intuitive interface, administrators can efficiently manage the following:
- Categories: Chose whether to block, ignore or set a time of day for categories. For example, a school might have an esports club after school. This gives the ability to allow the gaming category during those hours while blocking it during the school day.
- Custom URLs: This allows administrators the ability to add specific URLs they wish to block for specific users. Or, alternatively, allow specific websites for users that are otherwise blocked for everyone else. This is generally helpful for websites that are uncategorized and bypass any category settings.
- Web Services: This allows administrators to granularly control some website features. For example, you might have YouTube as an allowed website, but want to block certain features within YouTube, like comments. In this case, you can hide the comments section from users view.
- Applications and Protocols: This works for On-Premises setups only. In those cases of BYOD or (in rare cases) open access for users to download programs, this gives administrators the ability to target filter bypass programs by way of isolation, blocking or just monitoring.
- Keywords: This feature works in conjunction with StudentKeeper Capture Management where trigger words can be created to alert staff on potential student harm or behavior concerns.
5. Reporting
StudentKeeper offers comprehensive, customizable dashboards with role-based access to view data on a global, per-school, or per user level. By consolidating critical information into a single, easy-to-use platform, teachers and staff spend less time searching for details and more time focused on guiding students toward success.
Data Dashboards
Comprehensive reports with data visualizations. These dashboards can be filtered by user, date, and many other parameters. Custom reports can be generated from these boards. All dashboards can be exported to .PDF or emailed in various file formats.
Analytics Explorer
This report builder gives select users the ability to create tailored reports that meet their specific needs, ensuring they get the exact data and insights that matter most. By leveraging Metabase, these reports provide deeper visibility into trends, performance, and key metrics helping schools and administrators make informed decisions with ease.
Live Viewer (Web Traffic)
This is a real time live stream of all web traffic. Users have a configurable column to select the desired output and arrangement of streaming data.
6. ARIA (AI)
StudentKeeper’s Academic Resource & Intelligent Assistant (ARIA) includes access to intelligent tools that help students navigate AI safely and provide teachers with support that helps them spend more time focused on delivering customized learning experiences to their students.
AI Features
Here are the key features of ARIA:
- Attentiveness Scoring: ARIA helps teachers identify students who may need support and can provide gentle refocusing prompts when necessary, according to the specifications set by the teacher.
