Web Services provide granular control over common Services such as Google and YouTube. When enabling a Web Service, all necessary CDNs (Content Delivery Networks), players etc. are also enabled eliminating the need for further configuration.
Prerequisites:
- Access to Web Filter
- Active Web Filter Subscription
Configuring Web Services:
1. Navigate to Policy Management and select Policies.
2. Select the desired policy you want to enable the Web Services on and click Edit Policy.
3. Within Filter Rules, select Web Services.
4. Click into the Add Website box. This will bring up a list of our 35 Web Services. Select the desired website from this list and then click Add.
5.Under the State column, you have three options: To Allow, Block or set Time of Day settings for the Web Service.
6. If selecting Time of Day, you will then see a Customize button appear which you will need to click on to set the specific times for when these rules need to take effect.
7. You will see an option at the top to specify if you want the behavior of timeslots not specified to be Allowed or Blocked. Then click into a section within the gird for when you want this behavior to apply.
** To highlight multiple sections at the same time, left click & hold then drag the cursor down to the areas you want to highlight. **
8. Another box will then appear for you to set the state to either Allow or Block on this section. Hit Add in the bottom corner once you have set the state.
9. Once added, hit Save in the bottom corner and then hit Back to return to the Web Services list.
10. Next, click onto the Web Service to set the enhanced controls. In this example we will use Google.
11. This brings up a list of all of the features that Google offers. You have the ability to Allow or Block any of these features by toggling on the Allow or Block options within the drop-down menu under State.
12. If you scroll towards the bottom of the list, you will also see we have options for Custom URLs for certain services too. You can wildcard specific words so that if they are detected within a URL, the page will be blocked/allowed.
The example above shows 'sites.google.com/site/*unblock*'. This means if you visit any URL on Google Sites that contains the word *unblock*, the page will be blocked.
13. Once you have made the changes for the Web Service, click Save in the bottom right corner. Scroll up to the top of the page and click the Back arrow button to return to the Web Services list.
